2010年Amazon的倉庫需要雇用1500位員工，後來Amazon耗資7.75億美元併購發明這套倉儲機器人的製造商，買下Kiva Systems Inc所有在外流通股票。

Amazon全球客戶物流中心副總裁Dave Clark指出，Kiva 的自動化設備可將產品直接送到員工的面前，讓人力處理後續的選取、包裝、裝箱工作，進而提升物流中心的生產力。

2011到2012年間引進了Kiva運輸貨物機器人後，只需要個位數的員工，兩年內，整個系統就由1500人降到剩下個位數的人，這令人感到驚訝。

2014年Amazon 使用多達 15,000 部機械人去協助處理貨物。

Amazon原本需要很多真實員工在倉儲系統裡面走來走去，搬移貨物，相當耗費時間和人力成本，這些員工平均每天得走10-12英里（相當於16.1~19.3公里）。
